AEEE was launched in New Delhi, on 7th of November 2008, as an industry association created for the specific purpose of facilitating collaboration among India's energy efficiency (EE) industries and service providers.

AEEE Vision
An Energy Efficient India
|
AEEE enables India’s energy efficiency stakeholders to convene on a common platform that supports the Government’s energy conservation programmes and energy efficiency policy implementation, market development, and thereby EE improvements in all sectors of India’s economy.
AEEE is registered as a society under the Societies Registration Act (1860).
Addressing the Chasm
According to the Ministry of Power, the investment potential for energy savings amounts to USD 9.8 billion (about Rs 500 billion/Rs 50,000 crore) with annual savings of 183.5 billion kWh. Those energy savings would mean 148.6 million tons of avoided CO2 emissions per year. In 2008 the Bureau of Energy Efficiency estimated the ESCO business in India alone to be worth about Rs 20,000 crore in the aggregate. To leverage this business, capital of the scale of Rs 2,000 to Rs 3,000 crore would be needed. Hence the potential new business in this sector is estimated to be worth at least Rs 2,000 crore.

AEEE Mission:
AEEE addresses barriers to energy efficiency implementation through policy research; facilitating market transformation; fostering technology innovation; capacity building of energy professionals and stimulating financial investments.
|
Various business models based on Equipment Vendors, Consultants, Strategists with Financial and Technical support for pilot project have been suggested and applied in the Indian context. However, the experiences are varied and mixed, and there is need to consolidate and evaluate the best models.
The Alliance for an Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) has been visualised as a mechanism to coordinate actions, pool together information, analyse the trends and develop strategies, solutions and business models for energy efficiency; and for an organization that can focus attention on the issues and identify and develop opportunities for members. The incorporation of AEEE is an expression by the Indian industry that they are willing to invest time, resources and efforts to develop these services and benefits.
