Ms. Hema Hattangady
Ms. Hema Hattangady held roles as the Vice Chairperson & CEO of Conzerv Systems Pvt. Ltd. (now taken over by Schneider Electric India). Under Hema’s leadership, the firm which started as a small, family-owned business has evolved into a venture-funded, professionally-managed company and a trend-setter in Energy Efficiency business in India. By the time Conzerv became a Schneider body, it had evolved a unique business and revenue model which has transformed the company from less than USD 200,000 p.a. to USD 25 million with a wide international client base. The company achieved a CAGR (cumulative annual growth rate) of over 39% in sales and over 41% in profits in the last 5 years.
Hema is a Member of the Board of Governors of Xavier Institute of Management and Entrepreneurship (one of the leading management training institutes) based in Bangalore. She is also a member of the Board of Directors of Efficiency Valuation Organization (EVO), USA, which is the only non-profit organization in the world solely dedicated to creating measurement and verification (M&V) tools to allow efficiency to flourish.
Hema attended the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School (HBS) in spring 2008. At the end of the program HBS decided to do a case study on Conzerv that will be taught to future batches at the Advanced Management Program. Hema has an MBA from IIM Calcutta.
Dr. G.C. Datta Roy
Dr. Dr G C Datta Roy is the CEO of Dalkia Energy Services Ltd, which until recently was a subsidiary of the DCM Shriram Consolidated Limited group, is now a member of the French MNC Veolia/Dalkia group, the world’s largest environment and energy services business group.
Dr Datta Roy has over 40 Years experience in the manufacturing and the energy sectors in different capacities and is currently CEO, DSCL Energy Services (DSCLES). DSCLES is the largest ESCO in India providing energy efficiency, renewable energy and CDM development projects in India and many other developing countries and has been awarded as the best ESCO by PCRA, Government of India for the four of the last five years.
He is actively involved with all the major trade association in India like CII, FICCI, ASSOCHAM, and PHDCCI in the energy efficiency and environment sectors. As member of the CII committee, played a significant role in development of the EC Act of India and subsequently developing work plan for the Bureau of Energy Efficiency. He has contributed in developing sectoral strategies for the energy sector as a team member in several international projects. As member of the CII Committee on Climate Change, he was involved in development of the strategy paper recommending India’s position related to Kyoto Protocol from the industries perspective.
Dr Datta Roy has been involved in providing consulting services for development of energy efficiency market and ESCOs in countries like China, Algeria, Kenya and project execution services in few other countries.
Widely travelled, he has published large number of articles in industry journals and magazines and over seventy-five presentations in seminars/workshops on energy efficiency, renewable energy development and environment in India and abroad. Dr Roy graduated with honors in electrical engineering from Jadavpur University in 1965. He was awarded Ph.D. by BITS, Pilani in 1996. He also attended the Executive Programme at Darden School of Business, University of Virginia in 1990.
Dr. Satish Kumar
Dr. Satish Kumar of International Resources Group (IRG) heads the USAID ECO-III Project. He is also a Scientist (currently on leave) at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory where he has worked in various capacities for 10 years. He is considered a leading international expert in the field of building and public sector energy efficiency, monitoring and verification of energy savings, and indoor environmental quality.
He is the recipient of the prestigious International Energy Service Professional Award in 2003 by Association of Energy Engineers (AEE) for his valuable contributions in the development of International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol (IPMVP). He is a LEED Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Certified Energy Manager (CEM), and Certified M&V Professional (CMVP) and has published more than 40 papers and book chapters. He has a Bachelor's degree in Architecture from Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee and a Ph.D. in Building Science from Carnegie Mellon University, Pittsburgh, USA. He is a co-founder of Efficiency Valuation Organization (organization that maintains IPMVP) and serves as a board member. He has also served as the Chairman of Certified Measurement and Verification Professional (CMVP) Committee – a joint professional certification program offered by Association of Energy Engineers and Efficiency Valuation Organization (EVO).
In his current capacity as the Chief of Party of USAID ECO-III project, he works very closely with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency and supervises a team consisting of Indian and International companies and consultants. The main focus of the ECO-III project is to assist Bureau of Energy Efficiency in improving energy efficiency in buildings (both new construction and existing buildings) and to help develop energy efficiency capacity in Gujarat and Punjab through Energy Conservation Action Plan development, pilot project implementation, and capacity building. Under the ECO-III project, Dr. Kumar has led the development of ECBC tip sheets and user guide, ECBC and Energy Modeling training program, building energy efficiency courses at 20 architectural/engineering colleges, helped develop a state-wide municipal energy efficiency program in Gujarat, helped initiate a national data center energy efficiency program, and is working with four organizations to establish Regional Energy Efficiency Centers.
Ms. Sudha Setty
Sudha Setty until recently has been instrumental in executing a number of projects for Alliance to Save Energy in India and Sri Lanka in the last eight years both as a consultant and Senior Program Manager. Sudha has excellent program management skills for conceptualizing, executing and implementing new Energy Efficiency programs in India. She developed the municipal water and energy efficiency outreach programs for Karnataka state in India that included overseeing municipal energy audits, capacity building of the institutional partner in undertaking energy efficiency programs, planning and conducting seminars to disseminate the ‘Watergy’ concept to all urban local bodies in the state. She replicated this program in the states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. She has worked on rolling out the first state-wide municipal EE performance contract project in 29 cities in Tamil Nadu. She has also coauthored the ‘Manual for Development of Municipal Energy Efficiency Projects’ detailing the process of commissioning and undertaking Energy Efficiency Projects in municipalities. She is actively involved in the USAID bi-lateral Energy Commercialization and Conservation III project and REEEP project in Tamil Nadu. She has also developed and prepared ‘Five Year 2007-2011Energy Efficiency Roadmap for National Water Supply and Drainage Board’, Sri Lanka. She has been closely associated with building capacity of Sri Lankan hotels to become Energy Efficient by introducing new energy efficient technologies available to them, training them to benchmark their energy use, carry out energy audits and work adoption and implementation of suggested energy efficient measures.
Prior to her work with the Alliance, as the founder and director of ESSEn’ ELLE International Business Consultants, provided a range of consulting services including market research, marketing strategy and project management for the Indian operations of overseas companies. ESSE n’ ELLE’s client list included McKinsey & Company, USA, Bordeaux Business School, France, Pittsburgh Regional Alliance and TiE, USA and others.
Ms. Setty has a Bachelor in History, Economics and Sociology from Bangalore University in India. She also received a Masters of Arts in Urban and Industrial Sociology from Bangalore University. Ms. Setty obtained a Masters of Public and International Affairs from the University of Pittsburgh,USA with an advanced certificate in Asian Studies from their Center for Asian Studies.
Dr. Koshy Cherail
Dr Koshy Cherail worked with the Core Team of CEOs and partner organizations to incorporate AEEE. He is the nominated President of the AEEE Secretariat, and is the Secretary to the Board of Directors (the Executive Council). His inclusive leadership style and perseverance have helped in the realisation and speedy incorporation of AEEE.
The vision of AEEE was developed and given shape by Ms Hema Hattangady, (Vice Chair and CEO of Conzerv Systems Pvt. Ltd.), and further shaped by Koshy during his stint with Conzerv as Senior Consultant-Business Development. MsHattangady’s passion and commitment was complimented by Dr Datta Roy, CEO of DSCL ESCO Ltd., and catalysed by Dr Satish Kumar, Head of USAID-ECO-III Project Team and partners, International Resources Group (IRG) and Alliance to Save Energy (ASE). Ms Sudha Setty of ASE-India and the ECO-III team worked tirelessly to bring in the international linkages and experiences to boost AEEE’s global visibility. These global partners provided the much needed technical, information and documentation support to facilitate AEEE formation.
Koshy has over 22 years of experience in program implementation, policy analysis and consulting with various bilateral and multi-lateral agencies, including World Bank, USAID and GTZ. He was the facilitator and key contact in India, for the Three-Country (Brazil, China and India) Energy Efficiency Financing Project of UNF/UNEP and World Bank through IREDA during 2002-06. Prior to that Koshy has worked with Winrock International, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers, Centre for Science & Environment, and the Energy Management Centre (Govt of India).
Koshy is a Member of the Training Committee of Efficiency Valuation Organisation (EVO), and is assisting the EE industry in India to adopt and implement best practices in Measurement & Valuation (N&V), and the International Energy Efficiency Financing Protocol (IEEFP). He has been associated with various efforts to organise the ESCOs and EE businesses in India, which has now culminated in the formation of the Alliance. He has represented Indian Energy and EE business sector at various international fora. Koshy maintains close and regular contact with EE industry association leaders and facilitators in Asia, Europe, Australia and the Americas. Koshy has a PhD in Economics from University of Madras (1990).
