(2012) Achieving India’s 2020 goal to reduce carbon intensity: Discussion of the Indian policy context and lessons learned from UK/EU policy instruments

Royal Plaza Hotel, 28-29 March 2012, New Delhi

The Workshop on Achieving India’s 2020 goal to reduce carbon intensity:  Discussion of the Indian policy context and lessons learned from UK/EU policy instruments is being jointly organised by AEA Technology (UK), Emergent Ventures India (EVI) and Integrated Research and Action for Development (IRADe) that have formed a consortium to undertake analysis and dialogue initiative, in support of the Expert Committee on Strategies for Low Carbon Inclusive Growth, chaired by Dr. Kirit Parikh. The Alliance for An Energy Efficient Economy (AEEE) and Indian Energy Exchange (IEX) are the network partners for this event.

The objective of the project, supported by the British High Commission, is to share lessons learned from UK/EU policy experiences on practical policy instruments, to help India leapfrog some of these experiences in coming to its own policy approach, suited to the Indian context. The project seeks to provide useful insights and experiences, as inputs to policy development in three specific policy areas,vis-à-vis, Institutional framework for low carbon policy in India, Green/Energy Efficient Building and Renewable Energy Certificates.

We have been closely working with all concerned stakeholders to achieve the objectives of the project. This workshop would take forward the dialogue between the stakeholders and the project proponents, established during the first two roundtables and the interactions held in previous few months. The workshop will bring together policy makers, independent experts, researchers, academicians, regulators, and consultants from India and the UK. It will bring forth the findings of the project so far and will highlight the learning from international experience and specific recommendations for implementation in India.
